The Story
Who Is Ray Christian?
Raised in poverty in Richmond, Virginia, the son of illiterate parents, Dr. Christian forged a path from the streets to the military to academia. His life’s work centers the stories of people rarely heard — working class Black Southerners, veterans, families navigating generational struggle, and communities shaped by forces larger than themselves. He is a Fulbright Specialist in Education with expertise in oral history, narrative strategy, and cross cultural communication. He is the only specialist in his field on the Fulbright roster, making his approach uniquely valuable to institutions seeking depth, clarity, and cultural understanding.
Dr. Christian is the creator and host of What’s Ray Saying?, an award winning podcast produced with PRX. The show blends history, personal narrative, and cultural analysis to explore the forces that shape Black life in America. Scholarship and Teaching

Leadership & Nonprofit Work
Dr. Christian is the co founder and Director of Narrative Strategy and Creative Production at a national nonprofit he leads with his wife, Dr. Tiffany Christian, an accomplished executive director and community leader. Together, they develop programs that strengthen community storytelling, cultural understanding, and public engagement. Their work is grounded in partnership, clarity, and a commitment to protecting energy, privacy, and purpose.
